About this product

Dog-friendly pubs and cafés win a loyal crowd, but only if walkers know. A sign inside the door is too late; the decision is made on the pavement.

A Marple pub beside the towpath, Greater Manchester

Think of a pub in Marple, near the canal, with walkers passing all weekend. Many have a muddy dog in tow and assume they will be turned away. An A2 sign on the front wall facing the path, and another at the beer garden gate, changes that. Walkers see it from a distance and head over.

The mistake is fixing it inside, next to the bar or on the toilet door, where only people already inside can read it. Face it towards the street or path. If dogs are welcome only in the bar or garden, not the dining room, add that through typesetting for £15 so there are no awkward moments. A person checks the layout before print.

Board and size

Outside, Dibond lasts years on a wall or gate. 5mm Foamex works in a sheltered porch. Correx is good for a summer beer festival or a market stall. A2 reads from about 17 m, enough to catch a passing walker; A3, roughly 12 m, suits a shop door. Prices start at £26.55.

Production is 5 working days, and the courier usually takes 1 to 3 working days after that. Delivery is £7.95, or free when goods pass £100. What size should I order?

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.
