About this product

Check the arrow from where people stand

A banqueting suite in Cheetham Hill hosting a 400-guest wedding needs guests to find the washrooms from the main hall, the foyer and the smoking area. Each junction on the route gets a directional sign. The mistake that catches people is choosing the arrow by looking at the floor plan instead of standing at the spot. Stand where the sign will hang, face the way guests will arrive, and check which way they then turn. If it is left, this is your sign. If the route turns right at another junction, order the right-arrow version for that spot.

Sizing for Manchester event spaces

Directional signs are read from further off than door signs. The 200 × 200 mm square reaches about 8 metres and suits most corridors and foyers. In a large hall or a wide reception, the 297 × 297 mm size, readable from about 12 metres, is the better pick. Foamex is light enough to fix high on a wall with pads or screws. Vinyl sits on glass screens and painted pillars. Dibond suits a covered outdoor route between buildings.

What size should I order?

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.

Size	Can be read from about
150 × 150 mm	6 m
200 × 200 mm	8 m
297 × 297 mm	12 m

Good lighting stretches the reading distance; in dim spots, go a size up.

Slightly above head height on a wall facing the approach, so it reads over a crowd.
