Dangerous Site Children Must Not Play Sign in Manchester
Children treat sand piles, trenches and parked diggers as adventure. This sign is written for them and for the parents who walk past, so the message lands with the people most likely to climb a fence.

About this product
Building sites next to homes get busiest with children in the evenings, at weekends and in the school holidays, exactly when nobody is working and the plant sits quiet. That is when the sign does its work.
A Royton housing site in Greater Manchester, beside a primary school
Picture a small housing development in Royton, backing onto a primary school field and a play area. After 3.30 pm the footpath along the fence fills with families. Signs every 20 m along that footpath, with the bottom edge low enough for a child to read without looking up, plus one on each gate, tell children and parents alike that it is not a place to play. On the road side, where it is mostly adults driving past, fewer and larger signs make sense.
Getting the height right
The most common mistake is fixing every sign at adult eye height on the top rail of the fence. A seven-year-old looks straight ahead at the bottom of the panel. Mount some lower, especially on the stretches next to schools and parks.
Board
Correx at 3.5mm is light, waterproof and the usual pick for Heras fencing; it ties on in seconds. For a scheme lasting a year or more behind timber hoarding, 3mm Dibond holds up better. A2 reads from about 17 m, plenty for a footpath.
Prices from £26.55. The sign is ready to print; any file you upload with changes is checked free by a person, or we typeset it for £15. Production takes 5 working days, then a tracked courier usually 1 to 3 working days, £7.95 or free over £100. Collect from our Manchester office, Unit 3, 116 Bury New Road, M8 8EB, once we email that it is ready. More in construction site signs.

What size should I order?
Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.
| Size | Can be read from about |
|---|---|
| A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) | 12 m |
| A2 landscape (594 × 420 mm) | 17 m |
| A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm) | 24 m |
Good lighting stretches the reading distance; in dim spots, go a size up.
