About this product

A gate with eight separate signs zip-tied to it looks busy and gets ignored. A single site rules board gathers that kind of message into one place, the way most site gates now present it. People stop, read it once, and know what is expected.

On Manchester sites and yards

A housebuilder's development in Wigan fixes an A0 Dibond board at the entrance for the life of the project, which may run for a couple of years. A contractor refurbishing a terrace in Levenshulme cable-ties an A1 Correx board to the Heras fencing for a six-week job. A scaffold yard in Oldham puts a 700 × 1000 mm Foamex version inside the office door where drivers sign in. A demolition firm on a city-centre plot uses Dibond because the board will see every kind of Manchester weather before the job ends. What the rules say, and where boards go, is for the principal contractor or duty holder to decide.

Matching the board to the job

3.5mm Correx is light, waterproof and easy to fix to fencing, the usual site choice for shorter jobs. 3mm Dibond has aluminium skins on a solid core, for long projects and permanent yards. 3mm Foamex is the indoor option, for site offices, welfare cabins and reception areas.

Size and reading distance

Using the ISO 3864-1 rule of about a metre per 25 mm of short side:

  • A1 (594 × 841 mm): about 24 m.
  • 700 × 1000 mm: about 28 m.
  • A0 (841 × 1189 mm): about 34 m, for a gate read from a vehicle.

Fix it at eye height where people have to stop, such as beside the pedestrian gate or the signing-in point. Prices start at £52.34.

The layout comes ready to print. Want your company logo, site contact numbers or project name added? Send them through the quote form; typesetting is £15, and you see the layout before it prints. Allow 5 working days for production, then 1 to 3 working days by tracked courier. Delivery is £7.95, free once goods reach £100 after discounts. More boards are under site safety boards, and our construction site signage guide covers the rest of the gate.

Artwork checkEvery uploaded file is checked by a person for resolution, size and bleed.

What size should I order?

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.

SizeCan be read from about
A1 (594 × 841 mm)24 m
700 × 1000 mm28 m
A0 (841 × 1189 mm)34 m

Good lighting stretches the reading distance; in dim spots, go a size up.
