About this product

On the pick face, at the picker's eye line

Pickers look at the location label and the product, nothing else. That makes the end of the aisle the wrong place: by the time they reach the bay they have forgotten it. Put the sign on the beam or upright at the pick face, roughly level with the labels they are already reading, and repeat it every few bays down a long aisle.

Distribution sheds in Heywood, Greater Manchester

In a distribution shed in Heywood, near the M62, long narrow aisles hold mixed dated stock. A repeated A4 vinyl on every third bay beam keeps the instruction in sight without cluttering the racking. Where pickers ride a low-level order picker and read from further back, step up to A3, which reads from around 12 metres. Foamex works on the aisle-end frames. Dibond is for the loading dock apron if the sign faces the weather.

What does not work is one big A2 on the warehouse wall. A single sign at the gatehouse is read once on day one and never again.

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.
