About this product

"Mixed" tells staff that clear, green and brown glass share one bin.

A Deansgate bar's back yard, Manchester

Imagine a cocktail bar off Deansgate with a narrow back yard holding four wheelie bins. After service, staff carry crates of empties out in the dark. The glass bin needs to be identifiable instantly, under poor light, by someone who started that week. An A3 sign on the wall above it, on Dibond, does the job; A4 on the bin lid alone is too small and gets flipped up out of sight.

The usual mistake is lighting. A perfect sign in a pitch-black yard is invisible. Put it where the yard light falls, or close to the back door.

Glass bins are also where broken glass ends up in the wrong place, so label the general bin as well, so staff never use it for a cracked bottle. Our non-recyclable waste sign is made for that.

Board and size

Back yards are wet, so Dibond is the long-life choice. Foamex works under cover; vinyl fits a smooth bin body. A3 reads from about 12 m; A2, roughly 17 m, suits a large hotel service yard. Prices start at £26.82.

Production takes 5 working days, then delivery by tracked courier normally 1 to 3 working days. Delivery is £7.95 per order, waived over £100 of goods. To add "No ceramics or Pyrex", typesetting is £15 and a person checks it before print. You can collect from our Manchester office at Unit 3, 116 Bury New Road, M8 8EB once we email that it is ready. What size should I order?

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.
