About this product

Give drivers time to cross over

Consider a private clinic in Whalley Range in a large Victorian house, with two gates on the drive: the left one to a residents' garage, the right one to the patient car park. First-time visitors pick the left gate because it comes first. An A2 Dibond enter right arrow on the gatepost of the left-hand gate, read from about 17 metres, steers them on to the correct entrance. An A1 at the road end of the drive does the same for drivers turning in from the street.

Because a right turn usually means crossing something, place the sign far enough back that drivers can see clearly and choose their moment. A sign right at the turn leaves no time to check for walkers on the pavement.

Fitting it on Manchester sites

Arrows are mistaken more often than any other sign. Check the direction from the driver's seat, not a drawing, and fit the sign on a post or wall that faces approaching traffic square on. Dibond is the long-term outdoor board. Correx covers a temporary entrance, such as an event car park in a field. 5mm Foamex is for an undercover car park or loading area.

Pick a size people can read from where they will stand. As a cautious rule, using the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, allow roughly 1 metre of reading distance per 25 mm of sign height (measured on the shorter side). Check it against your own risk assessment.
