About this product

A Denton garage fence in Greater Manchester

Imagine an MOT and repair garage on a Denton industrial estate with a steel fence facing the road. Two A2 Dibond signs on the fence list services and the booking number; a third by the reception door shows opening hours. Each has four drilled holes so it bolts straight on, with no drilling of aluminium on site.

Finish is the detail people forget. A fence facing south or west catches low sun, and gloss can bounce light straight at drivers so the words disappear. Matt reads better in that position. Gloss works on a shaded wall, where it makes colours richer.

Keep it to a few lines

An A2 has room for a name, three or four services and a number, read from around 17 metres. Ten bullet points will not be read from a passing car. Put the detail on your website and keep the sign to what someone needs to decide to call.

Outdoors, a sign is an advertisement under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007. Most modest signs on your own premises need no application, but the council can tell you if yours does.
