When a paper card is the wrong tool

Some cards are handed over once and filed. Others get pulled out of a wallet every week for a year. That second kind is where PVC earns its price. It shrugs off a wet coat pocket, a spilt drink and the bottom of a gym bag, and the print stays sharp.

Typical buyers are gyms and sports clubs issuing membership cards, cafés running a loyalty scheme, salons with a VIP list, and trades who want a card to stay in a glovebox. An Oldham MOT garage could print a card with the reg number panel and test month on the back, something the driver keeps next to the logbook and finds again eleven months later.

Thickness, orientation and foil

570 micron is slimmer, a little more flexible and lighter in a wallet. 760 micron matches the thickness of a bank card, so it feels like an official card and is the one to pick for memberships or ID-style passes.

Every card is 86 × 54 mm, the same footprint as a bank card. Run the design landscape for a classic layout, or turn it portrait (54 × 86 mm) for a staff pass with a photo above the name.

Gold or silver foil is optional on the front. Print the back as well if you need terms, opening hours or a short map.

Quantities run 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000. A new club might start with 50. Prices start at £114.68. For paper cards, the business cards range has every other option.

Artwork and getting cards in Manchester

Send a PDF at the card size plus 3 mm bleed all round. Choosing foil? Add a second layer in solid black showing exactly where it should go, or ask us to set that layer up. Can PVC cards be used as membership cards?

That is one of the most common uses. The 760 micron option has the same feel as a bank card, and the reverse has room for club rules, opening hours or a QR code linking to your booking page.

Do the cards cope with rain?

PVC does not soak up water the way card does, so a soggy Manchester commute or a wet pocket will not leave it limp. Wipe it dry and it looks the same.

Landscape or portrait?
